I was tagged by Renae – 5 Wants (but not needs) and 5 Wishes of a Spiritual Nature.

I believe that our thoughts and words become our reality and so I always love a chance to articulate what is on my mind for the future.  Here is what has been on my mind of late:

  1. A huge building with a pottery wheel, a wood workshop corner, a loom, a glass art center and… room to grow! (does this count as more than one?)
  2. A gymnastics place in my town.
  3. A swimming pool in my town.
  4. A great co-op in my town.
  5. A greenhouse.

And Five Spiritual Wishes

  1. Serenity
  2. Mindfulness
  3. Time for Devotion
  4. Reverence
  5. Peace between different religions

And now…..  TAG!  your it!

I found this at Leaping From the Box

The first three people to leave a comment here will receive a home made gift from me sometime in the next 365 days.  In return, leave a post on your blog and give 3 homemade gifts, as a pay if forward!  The homemade gift I will give will likely be something knitted.

Fun, Fun, Fun!!

A Mexico Scavenger Hunt
icon1 Homestead Mama | icon2 Crafts, Mexico | icon4 12 29th, 2007| icon35 Comments »

Help us out and we will send you a post card or two from Mexico!  Would your kids enjoy getting a few postcards from Mexico in January?  Leave a comment with your suggestions and ideas.  I will email you privately for a mailing address.  Then,  our kids will send your kids a few postcards while we are in Mexico.  What do we need help with?  Some ideas!

We came up with a fun idea this morning as we were reading through the Eyewitness Travel Guide Mexico.  Let’s do a scavenger hunt while we are there!  More on that in a minute, but first a little background information.

We have equipped the kids with digital cameras and small journals.  They also each have a scrapbook.  They are working on the “skeleton” pages of the scrapbook now.

They will remain at home (they are the full size scrapbooks) but when we get home, they can fill them with the pictures and writing from their travel journals.

Now, on to the scavenger hunt idea.  This morning, we have learned that in Mexico there are:

  • 30,000 different plant species
  • 450 different mammals
  • 1000 types of birds

Some specific items we can look for are:

  • Cactus
  • Monarch Butterfly (October to March)
  • Desert tortoise
  • rattlesnake
  • flamingos
  • leopard frog
  • Armadillos
  • Whales (birthing January to March)
  • Bighorn sheep
  • Bobcat
  • Jaguars
  • Parrots

Now, we just need to figure out how to effectively turn this into a scavenger hunt.  I think we will do a category for plants and animals, foods, and cultural/historical landmarks.

Feel free to share your ideas!   We will be traveling by plane, car, and occasionally train.  We are packing pretty light – a backpack for each of us.  I will be taking a lot of pictures and notes – and we will share them here when we get back.

The Capitol tree in 2008 will come from Montana!  Part of this program means that all ornaments will be homemade by Montana Children!  The ornaments need to be turned in my MAY – so I think we will work on some now, as I’m pretty sure I will have a hard time feeling Christmas like in the spring.

icon1 Homestead Mama | icon2 Crafts | icon4 11 20th, 2007| icon3No Comments »

I blog to create:

  • a beautiful family memory-keeper
  • a place to keep notes on books I’ve read
  • a place to keep track of crafts we’ve done
  • a place for the kids to ‘publish’ their work
  • a place to share photos with family and friends
  • a place to write – (though I have a different website for my fiction writing activities)
  • a record of our homeschooling activities

Chrochet A Plastic Bag

Love, Love, Love this idea!!!

plastic bag tote

From this post at Zen Housewife.  Thanks Tracy!  Plastic bags drive me crazy…  try as I might to avoid bringing home my goods in plastic bags, they still seem to find a way to sneak in.   I’ve had renewable totes on my list of “things to do” for an eternity but alas – that list just gets longer and longer and it never gets done….

…. but with an idea as cute as this, how can I resist?  And we can tackle two evils with this one.  1)  Find a use for those darn plastic bags and 2)  Produce something that will help me say  “no” to the plastic!
